In 1991 Lithuanian government supported its peoples wish for independence but Russian troops stormed government buildings to take control. Many protesters gathered to protect government and media buildings from Russian advance but were beaten back; 14 protesters were killed. In September 1991 Lithuania did gain their independence from Russia.

In 1942 A meeting was held in London, England with representatives from nine countries that were currently occupied by German forces. The result of the meeting was the declaration that all responsible for war crimes would stand trial at the end of World War II.
In 1893 the Independent Labour Party was founded when 120 delegates (mainly young working men and women) meet in Bradford, England to create a national political party that would represent the working classes. Keir Hardie was their chairman and had already become an Independent Labour MP.
